About

Who we are and why we built Winkaru.

What we do

Winkaru collects research and articles from local and international sources, translates them where needed, and organises everything by country and topic. Our aim is to bridge the gap in understanding of Asian and Middle Eastern markets, for investors, academics and anyone who simply wants to learn more.

Winkaru specialises in Asia and the Middle East, publishing articles, data visualisations and profiles on the countries of the region.

Every chart links back to its source, and every article is dated so you know how current it is.

What’s next

We are always looking to improve the scope and quality of our research, and we are working on adding more layers of analysis to the site.

Terms of service

Last updated 20 October 2026

Winkaru is run by [YOUR FULL NAME], a sole trader based in [YOUR TOWN], United Kingdom ("we", "us"). By creating an account or subscribing you agree to these terms. You can reach us through the Contact page.

What Winkaru is

Winkaru publishes economic news, scores and reports about countries in Asia and the Middle East. Articles are collected from public news sources, labelled and scored automatically, and summarised by software that includes artificial intelligence. Scores reflect what headlines say, not official statistics, and they can be wrong.

Not financial advice

Everything on Winkaru is general information. It is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and it does not take your circumstances into account. Do not rely on it to make a trade or an investment. You are responsible for your own decisions. Some data on the site is illustrative sample data and is labelled as such.

Your account

You must be 18 or over. Keep your password private and give us accurate details. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us if you think someone else has used it.

The Daily plan

The Daily plan costs £9.99 per month, billed monthly in advance by card through Stripe, or £99 per year billed annually in advance, and renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. It includes the daily reports, the daily email briefing for the countries and sections you choose, and the Winkaru Summaries browser extension. The Daily+ plan costs £12.99 per month or £129 per year on the same terms and adds the daily markets report. You can cancel at any time in My account using "Manage subscription". After you cancel you keep access until the end of the month you have paid for, and we do not charge you again. We will tell you by email at least 30 days before any price rise, and the new price only applies from your next renewal. Refunds are covered in our refund policy.

How you may use it

Your subscription is for you personally. Do not resell or republish the daily reports or emails, share your login, or copy the site automatically (scraping). Short quotations with a link back to us are fine. Do not misuse the site, attack it, or try to get into parts that are not yours.

Content, ownership and sources

Winkaru's design, scores, reports and software belong to us. Headlines and articles belong to the outlets that published them, and we link to them. We do not control other websites and are not responsible for what they say.

Availability

We aim to publish every day but cannot promise the service will always be available, complete or error-free. Sources can be late, blocked or wrong, and updates can fail. If a paid daily briefing is missed we will, on request, extend your access or refund the affected period.

Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits any right you have as a consumer by law, or our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Subject to that, we are not liable for losses from decisions you make using the information on Winkaru, or for indirect or business losses, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it.

Ending things

You can stop at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, after telling you why where we can.

Changes and law

We may update these terms and will tell subscribers by email about important changes. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can deal with any dispute, although if you live elsewhere in the UK you may also use your local courts.

Privacy policy

Last updated 20 October 2026

Winkaru is run by [YOUR FULL NAME], a sole trader based in [YOUR TOWN], United Kingdom ("we", "us"), and I am the controller of your personal information. This explains what we collect and why. Contact us through the Contact page.

What we collect

  • Account details: your email address, your name (if you give it), and your password, which is stored scrambled (hashed) by our sign-in provider and never visible to us.
  • Your choices: your plan, subscription status and renewal date, and the countries and sections you chose for the daily email, and the countries you chose for the markets report.
  • Payments: handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. We receive a customer reference, your plan and its status.
  • Messages: what you send through the Contact form.
  • Email records: which daily emails we sent you.
  • Browser extension (Daily and Daily+): if you install Winkaru Summaries and press "Yes, summarise" on an article, we receive the article's text and web address and your sign-in token to check your plan. We keep the AI-written summary and a structured record of the article (its country, topic, the figures, people and organisations it mentions, and an economic sentiment score), linked to the article address and not to you, plus a daily usage count for your account. We use these records to build our own datasets and analysis. We do not keep the article text. We do not receive anything from pages you did not ask us to summarise.
  • Technical data: basic server logs such as IP address and browser type, kept for security and fixing faults.

Why we use it, and our legal basis

  • To run your account, sign you in, and send the daily briefing you subscribed to (to carry out our contract with you).
  • To take payment and keep payment records (contract, and our legal duty to keep accounts).
  • To keep the service secure, fix problems and reply to you (our legitimate interests).

We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising. We only send service emails, not marketing, and every daily email has a one-click unsubscribe link.

Who handles it for us

These companies process data on our behalf: Supabase (accounts and database), Stripe (payments), Resend (sending email), Netlify (website hosting), DigitalOcean (our server), and Anthropic (AI used on news headlines, and, only when you press "Yes, summarise" in the browser extension, on the text of the article you are reading; it does not include your name or email). Several are based in the United States, so your data may be transferred outside the UK. We rely on the safeguards those providers offer, such as approved standard contract terms.

How long we keep it

Account data stays while your account is open. If you ask us to delete it, we do so within 30 days, except records we must keep by law, such as payment records, which are kept for six years.

Cookies and similar storage

We use your browser's storage only to keep you signed in and remember simple preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The site loads fonts from Google Fonts and code from jsDelivr, which can see your IP address when your browser fetches them.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, and receive a copy in a portable form. Contact us to use any of these. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would like the chance to put things right first.

Children

Winkaru is for adults and is not aimed at anyone under 18.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so on this page and by email to subscribers.

Refund policy

Last updated 20 October 2026

14-day money back

If you are not happy, ask us within 14 days of your first payment and we will refund it in full, no questions asked. Send your request through the Contact page using the email address on your account.

Cancel any time

You can cancel your subscription whenever you like in My account, using "Manage subscription". You keep access until the end of the month you have already paid for, and you will not be charged again.

After the first 14 days

We do not refund the month already started, but we will always cancel future payments for you if you ask. If a technical fault on our side meant you did not get the service you paid for, tell us and we will extend your access or refund the affected period.

How refunds are paid

Refunds go back to the card you paid with, normally within 10 days of us approving them, depending on your bank.

Your legal rights

This policy adds to your legal rights as a consumer and does not reduce them.
